WWE’s Cody Rhodes recalled considering entering into MMA, specifically the UFC.
Rhodes left the WWE to help create their rivals, AEW, before making a return to WrestleMania 38 in 2022. He has headlined WrestleMania 39 and become a top draw, winning tag titles with Jey Uso. He will participate in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble this Saturday, the same event he won a year ago. Despite this wrestling success, he once considered MMA during his earlier years.
“I actually told my wife, I told my wife I wanted to do one fight. I told her this two years ago, I think I was looking for some sort of massive financial windfall. I don’t know what it was. But I told her I wanted to do one fight and she absolutely let me know that would not be happening. Unless you convince her, it’s not going to happen. Maybe it’s for the best,” Rhodes said
Dwayne Johnson also spoke about how he considered joining MMA. He chose to stay in WWE, making tremendous progress. He won the Royal Rumble in 2000 and became the WWE’s sixth Triple Crown Champion. If Rhodes achieves near what Johnson did, he will unlikely regret passing up the MMA opportunity.
