Yair Rodriguez, Brian Ortega Targeting Win At UFC Long Island For Title Shot

Yair Rodriguez says he will get a title shot if he defeats Brian Ortega.

Rodriguez, one of the most talented strikers in the UFC, will be fighting against Brian Ortega in the main event this Saturday.

“Yes, that has been said to me,” Rodriguez said when asked if he or his management has been told a win gets him a title shot.

“That’s what we’re looking for. First things first, I’m going to win this fight and then give the champ some time to heal and, yeah, go for it. Right now let’s just take it step-by-step. First thing’s first July 16th, Brian Ortega.”

Rodriguez is coming from a loss against Max Holloway.

Meanwhile, Ortega suffered a loss against Volkanovski. He has suffered only two losses in his career, which were both in title fights.

Rodriguez talked about Volkanovski and said that he is a tough opponent and needs to work as hard as possible to dethrone him.

“Wow. That’s all I can say. He looked amazing,” Rodriguez said.

“It was eye-opening for me, and I better get ready for that if I want to be the champion. If I want to be the champion, I’m going to have to put some work because he’s tough. He’s really tough.”

Volkanovski put away Holloway for the third time earlier this month at UFC 276. He retained his featherweight title.

Even though people disagree, Ortega believes he should be the next title challenger. He said he was the only guy who was very close to the victory and deserved the second shot against him.
