Yancy Medeiros And Justin Janes Suspended Despite Nevada’s Pro Marijuana Policy

Lightweight Yancy Medeiros and Featherweight Justin Janes have been suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for four-and-a-half months for testing positive for marijuana.

The news has left the MMA fans baffled because the commission had just declared the use of marijuana legal. However, the samples were taken before there was a change in the policy, so the charges were put in place. The UFC has also axed both fighters. They were on a four-fight losing streak.

Medeiros has been fined $2,690.72 and Jaynes $1,245.36 for the policy breach. Their suspensions will end on November 9.

UFC president Dana White has been trying to loosen up the rules around marijuana’s use for a year.

White shared his take on the marijuana situation when lightweight Kevin Croom and DWCS competitor Jose Flores tested positive for cannabis back in 2020.

“When you compete, you have to test these guys. You can’t let somebody go into the ring high. It just can’t happen,” the UFC president said. “I don’t know what to do with that. We’re trying to loosen it up, but at the same time, you can’t have guys showing up high.”
