Yoel Romero Expected To Sign With Bellator

Yoel Romero is Bellator bound.

Romero, who is a former UFC Middleweight Title challenger, parted ways with the promotion recently. The news came as a surprise to many who assumed “The Soldier of God” would stick around for some exciting non-title bouts before ending his career. UFC President Dana White said the 44-year-old is on the decline and that the UFC roster is “inflated” at the moment.

At first, Bellator President Scott Coker passed on Romero. The Bellator boss said he was satisfied with the current roster. Things have quickly taken a turn.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani is reporting that Romero is expected to sign with Bellator and he will make his promotional debut as a light heavyweight.

“Yoel Romero is headed to Bellator. Romero has agreed to a new deal with Bellator, sources say. He is expected to sign imminently. He’ll debut for the promotion in 2021 at 205 pounds. His debut date and fight aren’t set yet, sources say. Initially, Bellator officials passed on Romero, however, after further talks last week, and with a new chapter at 205, the two sides were able to come to an agreement very recently.”

This opens the door for fresh matchups for Romero. That includes a potential showdown with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who just signed with Bellator and will also compete as a light heavyweight.

We’ll keep you updated on Romero’s expected signing with Bellator. Once a date and opponent is set for “The Soldier of God’s” promotional debut, we’ll be sure to let you know.
