Young Chinese Striker Revs Up For ONE 159
Eighteen-year-old Zhang Peimian is preparing for Aslanbek Zikreev at ONE 159.
A week will pass until Permian squares off against Zikreev. The Singapore Indoor Stadium will host ONE 159 on July 22, where the Chinese hitting prodigy will face off against Zikreev.
Peimian previously told ONE Championship that he was confident in his superior speed and power. In their strawweight kickboxing contest, Zikreev will put his assertions to the test.
Peimian got the opportunity to practice with kickboxing superstar Takeru Segawa at Tiger Muay Thai last week, in addition to using pads.
Zikreev, the Russian striker, defeated former world championship candidate Wang Junguang in a split decision in his victorious promotional debut in 2020.
When they square off at ONE 159, the No. 2 strawweight Muay Thai contender hopes to maintain that momentum against the 18-year-old Peimian.
In March, Peimian fought Josh Tonna in a strawweight kickboxing match at ONE: Lights Out. In the opening round of their fight, the rising Chinese star dominated, using low kicks to cut down his opponent’s legs and accurate combinations to catch him.
Before the first round was over, Peimian got knocked down, but Tonna got the required eight-count. The Shengli Fight Club representative entered the second round with the expectation that it would be the contest’s final round.
Tonna was sent to the ground by two powerful left hooks to the body, but the Australian striker sprang back both times. Still, Tonna was overpowered by Zhang’s barrage of lethal combos and fell to the ground after taking a left hook to the head.
