Yuriorkis Gamboa: I Know What I Have To Do To Beat Devin Haney
Former world boxing champion Yuriorkis Gamboa believes he can upset Devin Haney and return to glory.
Gamboa will challenge Haney for the WBC Lightweight Championship this Saturday night, November 7. Gamboa is in search of his first major title win at lightweight, not including his run with the interim gold back in 2013. He’s also looking to become the first boxer to hand Haney a pro loss.
Speaking to Ring Magazine, Gamboa explained why he feels he can stun the boxing world with a victory over Haney.
“I know what I have to do and I would rather not share that. God is with me. He will give me strength to face anyone in the ring. My trust is in God.”
Gamboa went on to say that he was able to put his full attention on rehabbing a ruptured right Achilles, which has left him feeling ready for the title opportunity against Haney.
“I was able to overcome because God was with me. It gave me the strength to overcome that. I focused 100-percent on the rehab and getting my leg stronger,” Gamboa said. “Little by little, I was able to do a full work-out on it. Come November 7, I’m going to give my all.”
Gamboa is coming off a 12th-round TKO loss to Gervonta Davis back in December 2019. Gamboa injured himself early in the fight but was able to push through the injury and almost made it to the final bell. Time will tell whether or not he can find success against Haney.
