UFC Shenzhen: Zhang Makes History & Highlights
One of the fastest-rising stars in the UFC today can now be called a champion. Fighting in front of her family and friends in China, Weili Zhang knocked out Jessica Andrade to win the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title earlier this morning.
It took 42 seconds for Zhang (20-1) to take out Andrade (20-7) inside the Shenzhen Universade Sports Centre Arena. When Rose Namajunas faced Andrade in Brazil, the advantage went to the local star. Now, the tables turned for Andrade.
Right when the fight started Andrade crowded Zhang but was getting hit with brutal combination strikes. A flurry of shots by Zhang landed, followed by a right elbow and a right cross. After that, Zhang smelled blood, landing more elbows, knees and strikes until Andrade dropped to the floor. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight.

“My name is Zhang Weili!” Zhang stated after the fight. “I’m from China. Remember me!”
With that win, the young star became the first Asian champion in UFC history. She also is now ranked in the top ten of fastest UFC finishes. Zhang has now won 20 straight fights dating back to 2014, and has now finished fighters in 17 of her wins.
