Joanna Jedrzejczyk may have made her case for another strawweight title shot last week, but if it’s up to champion Weili Zhang, she’s not getting one.
Jedrzejczyk defeated Michelle Waterson in a one-sided unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Tampa last week. With the win, Jedrzejczyk rebounded from the first major losing skid of her career, and she hoped it would lead to a title shot against Zhang.
Zhang defeated Jessica Andrade in less than a minute to win the strawweight title at UFC Shenzhen back on August 31.
Zhang says she was not impressed with how Jedrzejczyk looked, and that even in a one-sided decision, she still didn’t look as dominant as she did as champion.
“I don’t think shes the fighter that she used to be,” Zhang said. “She’s not in the condition she used to be. I’m not very interested.”
Zhang added that she would have to think about also taking a fight with Rose Namajunas, the woman who beat Jedrzejczyk for the title and lost the title to Andrade.
Zhang says she wants to face the best competition, and with that, she’s still looking for a champion vs. champion fight with women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
“I want to fight the best,” Zhang said. “Right now I think Valentina is one of the best.”
