Zhang Peimian Prevails Over Aslanbek Zikreev At ONE 159

When “Fighting Rooster” Zhang Peimian and Aslanbek Zikreev squared off at ONE 159: De Ridder vs. Bigdash on Friday, July 22, they were determined to show that they belonged at the top of the strawweight kickboxing category.

Both fighters put in a strong effort throughout, but in the end, Peimian was declared the winner by a unanimous vote.

The bout began quickly in the Singapore Indoor Stadium, with Peimian and Zikreev throwing high kicks and punches while the latter attempted to slow down Peimian with a jab and low kicks.

Before landing with multiple perfect knees, “Fighting Rooster” hit his opponent with a heavy blow to the head. The Russian, also vying for position #2 in the strawweight Muay Thai rankings, remained firm and responded with equal intensity.

Round two saw the action continue at a furious pace. Zikreev continued to exert himself vigorously with punches and low kicks while “Fighting Rooster” countered with solid blows. The Russian fighter fought well, but Peimian’s connected a much more significant and an eye-catching high kick to a spinning back fist combination.

The two competitors continued where the second round left off in round three. Zikreev advanced much more forcefully, throwing spinning back fists, kicks, and punches at “Fighting Rooster.” Until the last bell sounded, Peimian planted his feet and drew back with his right fists and hooks.

The judges had a difficult task, but after three rounds of constant action that was fierce and fast-paced, they decided to favor the Chinese prodigy’s strength and precision above Zikreev’s high output. Peimian’s record now stands at an incredible 16-1-1 after receiving the unanimous decision victory.

Peimian, who is only 18 years old, is already within striking distance of the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship. His worldwide fan base eagerly anticipates what comes next for him.
