Zhang Zhilei Agrees To Fight IBF Final Eliminator With Filip Hrgovic
The mystery about who will be competing with Filip Hrgovic in the IBF Eliminator is finally solved.
According to Dan Rafael, the 13th-ranked Zhang Zhilei is now willing to take on Hrgovic in the heavyweight showdown.
He was tabled the offer after the 12th-ranked Demsey McKean declined it.
This makes up a long list of boxers who declined the fight against El Animal (23-0-1, 18 KO) for various reasons. Four fighters did not agree because they were injured, three of the fighters had commitments elsewhere, whereas two just plainly refused.
The 38-year-old is waiting to get a fight finalized since his Olympic victory and has never seen a rise in performance in the pro ranking. He has consistently faced weaker opponents since his debut fight.
Even Zhilei’s biggest fight against Jerry Forest that he fought last year was unable to do anything outstanding for him. The fight ended in a draw and Zhilei had to endure a full-body shutdown.
The fight against Hrgovic (11-0, 9 KO) is his only golden chance to hold the title shortly. Though the fight is challenging, the 2008 silver medalist seems hopeful to break the jinx and win it.
