Sylvester Stallone has completed a script for another Rocky movie, 50 years after the original boxing film premiered in 1976.
The 80-year-old actor, who created and portrayed Rocky Balboa across six films, revealed that his latest screenplay would explore Rocky’s life outside the ring as he grows older and adjusts to changes in his Philadelphia neighborhood.
Stallone said that Balboa would devote himself to helping less fortunate people, although he remains uncertain about the project’s commercial appeal, stating “I just wrote it for myself.”
No production agreement or release date has been announced for a potential seventh Rocky film. Stallone last portrayed the character in Creed II in 2018, having previously starring in Rocky Balboa in 2006.
Stallone has also expressed interest in developing a prequel exploring the original characters during the 1960s.
Meanwhile, I Play Rocky, a biographical film starring Anthony Ippolito as a young Stallone, arrives in limited theaters on November 6 before expanding nationwide on November 20. The film chronicles Stallone’s struggle to bring the original Rocky to the screen and his insistence on playing the now iconic role.
