Tim Tszyu (28-3, 18 KOs) wants to continue fighting in Australia by luring WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (32-3-3, 19 KOs) to his home country for a fight in December.
Tszyu returned to fighting in Australia after losing three of his previous four fights, with the 3 losses all coming in the United States including two losses to Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas for the world super-welterweight title. He is now on a three-fight win streak, including a unanimous decision win over Errol Spence Jr. on July 26 in Sydney. The Spence win was Tszyu’s first fight at 160-pounds, and he said at the time he felt strong at the weight. Now, he’s targeting a middleweight world title — specifically, Lara’s.
“We sat down with the team, spoke about different options, and to become a two-time world champion is part of the plans. That’s what I’m chasing, against a guy called Lara,” said Tszyu, confirming he intends to “bring him over to Australia.”
A two-division champion himself, Lara won the vacant WBA middleweight championship with a first-round knockout win over Thomas LaManna in May 2021. He has defended it four times since then, including a ninth-round retirement of Danny Garcia in September 2024. His last fight was a decision win over Johan Gonzalez in December 2025.
Tszyu is the WBA’s No.4-ranked fighter at middleweight.
Negotiations for a championship fight between Tszyu and Lara could prove to be smooth considering the ongoing working relationship between Tszyu’s promoter, No Limit Boxing, and Lara’s representatives at Premier Boxing Champions.
