Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) is reportedly planning to make his comeback in the fall, and is targeting a fight vs unified junior lightweight champion Emanuel Navarrete first (40-2-1, 33 KOs), followed by moving back up to lightweight to face Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs).
Navarrete, who currently holds the IBF and WBO titles at 130 pounds, has been identified as a potential first step so Loma can become a world champion once again, however Davis is the longer-term target as that is a more marketable fight and fits with Loma stating that he only wants “big fights”. Talks for Lomachenko vs Davis first circulated in 2024 before Loma retired following his stoppage win over George Kambosos Jr. to win the vacant IBF lightweight title in May 2024.
Lomachenko reportedly made the decision to come out of retirement on May 12, the same day his contract with Top Rank expired, so unless he decides to sign with another promotion, he will be returning as a free agent.
