Arum: Canelo Will Pay, Get KO’d by GGG

As part of his appearance walking the red carpet of ESPN’s ESPY Awards show, Top Rank executive Bob Arum was asked on his prediction for the September 15 middleweight title rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

Arum believes that Alvarez knowingly took performance-enhancing drugs and says that the Mexican fighter will not be able to benefit from such anymore following Alvarez’s suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which canceled a planned May rematch. And in the end, Arum says, Alvarez will be on the canvas.

“I’ll take Triple-G to win the fight,” Arum said. “I think that Canelo is gonna pay the price for being off the juice. And I think that Triple-G will knock him out.”

Alvarez has not been knocked out in his professional career, with his chin being one of his highest attributes and keys to victory. Alvarez maintains his innocence from the positive tests earlier this year, claiming the results came back positive as a result of tainted meat.

The two originally squared off on September 16 last year, with the fight ending in a controversial split draw.
