Barry Hearn: Joshua Has Three Choices
Following a weekend where Eddie Hearn left New York without a compromise with Deontay Wilder’s team, the elder Hearn claims two other men may end up facing Anthony Joshua next.
Barry Hearn, founder of Matchroom Boxing, claimed in a new interview, that while his son is working double time to get a unification deal done, other options are being explored.
“He has a choice,” Hearn claims in a story from Boxing Scene. “I think his preference is Alexander Povetkin for his mandatory, Jarrell Miller is in the top five, and Deontay Wilder.
“They’re his three main choices and I expect him to make his mind up in the next seven to 10 days. He’s a smart young man and the final decision is always made by him.”
The elder Hearn did reiterate what his son claimed that it was Wilder and not Wilder’s management who sent the offer.
“It’s very strange, because we’ve never had an offer from Wilder’s management, but we’ve had an offer from Wilder,” he added.
“He said he’d give us $50m, but I don’t think he’s got $50m. There was no contract.”
