A UFC Vegas 14 fight has been shelved just one day prior to the event.
A middleweight clash between Julian Marquez and Saparbek Safarov was set to take place on the main card of UFC Vegas 14. That is no longer the case as Safarov has been pulled due to weight-cutting issues.
It’s a tough break for Marquez, who hasn’t competed since July 6, 2018. He’s been hoping to rebound from a split decision loss to Alessio Di Chirico. That was the second loss in Marquez’s pro MMA career.
As for Safarov, this weight-cutting mishap may not bode well for his future with the UFC. As it is, Safarov has gone 1-3 in his last four outings. A loss to Marquez would’ve likely given him a pink slip. The UFC has cut fighters in the past for missing weight and Safarov may be on the chopping block. Of course, that is just speculation.
UFC Vegas 14 will be headlined by a lightweight scrap between former 155-pound champion Rafael dos Anjos and Paul Felder. Felder is stepping in on five days’ notice after Islam Makhachev pulled out due to an infection. Both dos Anjos and Felder have made weight, making their main event fight official for tomorrow night, November 14.
