Eubank Ready To Take Down Golovkin

One of the most promising matchups for Gennadiy Golovkin is against Chris Eubank Jr. The 30-year-old from Hove, East Sussex is currently the interim WBA Middleweight Champion, and is looking to show just how talented he is. A lost fight reborn could be the key to Eubank’s continued success.

Eubank (29-2) spoke to Sky Sports about the Golovkin (40-1-1) bout that was supposed to happen in 2016. Negotiations appeared to have fell through, resulting in Golovkin’s TKO-win over Kell Brook. Eubank is hoping to get his due all these years later.

“We were supposed to fight and it has always irked me that the fight was stolen from me and given to Kell Brook at the last minute,” Eubank stated. “In the back of my mind it has always been there. I’ve always wanted to fight him.”

Regarding a contract, Eubank ended up telling anyone that would listen that he was never given one. Since that initial dispute, Eubank is 6-1 in his last seven fights. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak, recently beating Matt Korobov via TKO in December. With 22 wins via knockout, Eubank believes he has the skills to beat Golovkin.

“People put this guy’s name so high,” Eubank continued. “But I know I can beat him. I know that I have the tools and the style to take this guy out. My speed, my tenacity? I don’t think he would be able to deal with it. This is the main fight.”

Since the Brook fight, Golovkin is 4-1-1 in his last six fights. He fought Canelo twice, once to a draw and a loss in another. Golovkin rebounded with a quick Steve Rolls win before struggling against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Still, Golovkin is a man who is up for any challenge. Eubank believes it would be the perfect matchup.

“With my fight style – speed and volume punching – it would be an amazing fight,” Eubank stated. “Golovkin is a come-forward fighter. It would be fireworks, a fight that the fans would enjoy. Because of my style, I would stop him due to the pure amount of punches. Whether it’s a cut or he gets tired, stopping him would definitely be on the cards.”

It may be a while before Eubank can get a fight with Golovkin. There are reports that Golovkin will face Canelo in a trilogy fight. That bout would be on September 12. Eubank has no fights scheduled as of this moment.
