Ferguson Tops UFC 249 Salaries
While he didn’t walk out the winner at UFC 249, Tony Ferguson’s bank account did.
MMA Fighting revealed the payday the fighters who competed inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on May 9 received. Ferguson (25-4) ended up earning $500,000. The man who beat him for the interim UFC Lightweight Title in Justin Gaethje earned $350,000. Those sums do not include the Performance and Fight of the Night Bonus that the two fighters earned. In total, Gaethje took home $450,000.
The co-main event saw Henry Cejudo successfully defend his UFC Bantamweight Title against a returning Dominick Cruz. In his first fight since 2016, Cruz (22-3) earned $300,000. Cejudo (16-2), an Olympic medalist and former UFC Flyweight Champion, earned $350,000. After the fight Cejudo retired. One factor in his decision was a request for a bigger payday, something he will look into if he was to return.
Additionally, after knocking Jairzinho Rozenstruik ($80,000) out in 20 seconds, Francis Ngannou earned $260,000 + $50,000 for Performance of the Night. Jeremy Stephens had a decrease in his salary because he missed weight for the event.
