Full Lineup For May 30 UFC Event Announced
With only a week until the UFC’s proposed next event, Dana White announced the full card for UFC on ESPN 9. Taking place on May 30, The main event will be the previously announced welterweight bout between Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns.
Woodley (19-4-1) has not competed since losing the UFC Welterweight Title to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235 back in March 2019. He was supposed to face Leon Edwards at UFC London, but that event was postponed. Woodley is currently ranked first in the UFC’s welterweight contender rankings.
Burns (18-3) is on a five-fight win streak. His last bout was a TKO-win over Demian Maia back in March in Brazil. “Durinho” returned to welterweight back in August after spending a few years in the lightweight division. The 33-year-old is ranked sixth in the welterweight rankings.
The co-main event of the event will be Blagoy Ivanov v. Augusto Sakai. Ivanov (18-3, 1NC) just had his two-fight win streak snapped at the hands of Derrick Lewis at UFC 244 in November. “Bagata” is 2-2 in his last four fights and is a former World Series of Fighting Heavyweight Champion. Sakai (14-1-1) is on a five-fight win streak and is 4-0 since joining the UFC. His last bout was a win over Marcin Tybura via knockout back in September.
One fighter to keep an eye on is Kevin Holland, who is set to face off against Daniel Rodriguez. Holland (17-5) fought just last week at UFC on ESPN 8. He beat Anthony Hernandez via TKO after only 39 seconds into round one. “Trail Blazer” is 4-1 in his last five.
UFC on ESPN 9 is scheduled to take place inside the UFC’s APEX Center in Nevada. White was confident they would be returning, however, this all depends on an upcoming ruling by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
