Gervonta Davis Raises Ryan Garcia Offer

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (30-0-1, 28 KO) has a new proposal to fight Ryan Garcia (26-2, 21 KO, 1 NC) in a rematch.

Davis knocked out Garcia in the seventh round of their 2023 fight, which was a 136-pound catchweight. Garcia mistakenly agreed to Tank’s 10-pound rehydration clause for the bout, leaving Garcia weight-drained for the fight. Since then, Davis has only fought twice, beating Frank Martin by knockout in June 2024 before a controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025 — his most recent bout.

In his absence, Davis was stripped of the WBA lightweight belt due to having a warrant out for his arrest and for inactivity in the ring, while Garcia became the WBC welterweight world champion with a unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios on February 21, followed up by a second-round knockout of Conor Benn on September 12.

Davis has been linked with an imminent return to the ring, and suggested this week he’d fight Garcia at 140 pounds, but not at 147 — the weight Garcia has competed at since 2025. Garcia rejected the stipulation, pointing out that he went down to 136 pounds to fight Davis three years ago and arguing ‘Tank’ should now come up to his division.

Now, Davis has a counter, saying “I’ll do 144.” Considering how quickly Gervonta upped his offer, it’s clear he is desperate for the fight, however the tables have turned since their first bout and Garcia now has all the leverage so he can wait out Gervonta until he agrees to fight him at the full welterweight limit. If not, Garcia has other options such as Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz and a unification fight in 2027 vs WBA champ Teofimo Lopez.
