Gilbert Burns Predicts Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal Rematch
Gilbert Burns has given his prediction for the rematch between UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal.
This Saturday night, April 24, Usman will put his 170-pound gold on the line against Masvidal a second time. Back in July 2020, Usman defeated Masvidal via unanimous decision. Masvidal hasn’t had a fight since.
Burns, who was unsuccessful in his bid for Usman’s title back in February, told MMAJunkie.com that he feels Usman vs. Masvidal 2 will be a different fight but the result will be unchanged.
“I don’t know. I think a lot of things will be different. Masvidal, for sure he’s in shape now, he’s in way better shape, no weight cut. People don’t understand that a hard weight cut on short notice, the weight cut is different. I did the short notice before, and I know how hard it is to do the weight cut.
“For sure it’s gonna be different. I think Masvidal felt Kamaru, he felt a lot of things, so did Kamaru. I think the fight will play a little different. I don’t know if the result is going to change, I don’t think it’ll change, but the fight is gonna be different.”
Usman vs. Masvidal 2 will headline UFC 261 inside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The event will also feature two other title fights. Strawweight Champion Weili Zhang will put her gold on the line against Rose Namajunas. Women’s Flyweight titleholder Valentina Shevchenko is set to defend her title against Jessica Andrade.
