Holloway Fires Back At Topuria For Ducking

BMF Champion Max Holloway has questioned UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria’s desire to fight.

Following his knockout win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, Holloway called out Topuria, who was ringside. The featherweight champ said he only wanted to face Holloway for the BMF belt. Blessed hit back at those comments, saying they violated the spirit of the belt. Holloway was clear that a BMF Champion should fight whoever, regardless of what was on the line.

Topuria’s stock rose when he stopped Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298. That ended Volk’s four-year reign as champion, giving him his first stoppage loss at featherweight. While a Volkanovski rematch has been teased, there has been no agreement. That has created the narrative that Topuria is doing anything but agreeing to a fight, including with Holloway.

“Bro you’re the one making this hard. Ennnnooouuggghhhh already lol. I’ll “bring your belt” The B****ing Mother F**er. All you are doing is putting words together now. You’re spiraling,” Holloway said

The delay in Topuria’s next fight could be for various reasons. He has expressed his desire to become one of the world’s highest-paid athletes next year. That requires him to take the biggest fights, which take time to make. There are also suggestions that Topuria wants to fight in Spain, with the UFC potentially holding its first-ever card in the country. Until Topuria makes his next fight, the criticism won’t stop. Volkanovski was the latest one to call out the champ.

“Right now, he’s saying ‘no’ to everyone. That’s the problem. He’s saying no to Max Holloway, to Brian Ortega, to me, you name it. Not wanting to come to Australia, okay, but he’s saying ‘no’ to everyone. He’s saying ‘I don’t want to fight any of the contenders … I want to fight Conor McGregor’. That just puts a sour taste in people’s mouths. Because when you hold the belt, there is a responsibility that comes with that, a pressure. You can’t just be saying ‘nah, nah, nah’, that’s crazy — he’s not going about things the right way,” Volkanovski stated
