Lima Regains Bellator Welterweight Title

On July 17, 2015, at Bellator 140, Douglas Lima lost the Bellator welterweight championship to Andrey Koreshkov, losing the bout by unanimous decision. This time around, the bout did not need to go into the hands of the judges.

Lima has taken the title back with a third-round knockout of Koreshkov, making Lima a two-time Bellator welterweight champion. Both men opened the bout cautiously, with not one particular fighter gaining an advantage early on. Lima opened the second round strongly against the champion, and though Koreshkov is fighting back, nothing seemed to damage Lima too much. Lima attempted a triangle submission hold, but Koreshkov showed great submission defense. Koreshkov got Lima down to the ground late in the second — the second time in the round — and finished off the round with some ground-and-pound punches.

A little less than 1:30 into round three, however, and Lima got the champ where he wanted him. Backing up, allowing Koreshkov to get into range, and he nailed the champion with a left hand, knocking him out and winning the title.
