Lou Duva Passes Away at 94
Legendary boxing trainer Lou Duva has passed away at the age of 94.
Duva was hospitalized last week due to breathing complications and fluid in his lungs and passed away Wednesday, according to an official statement by the Duva family.
A Hall of Fame trainer and widely considered one of the greatest cornermen of all time, Duva made his mark on the boxing world like few others. He worked with some of the biggest names in boxing, from Evander Holyfield to Lennox Lewis to Pernell Whittaker.
Following news of Duva’s passing, many established names in the boxing world spoke out to express their gratitude for the mark that Duva left on the sport.
"In the 1970’s and especially 1980’s when boxing was regularly on all the networks you could honestly say that Lou Duva was the face of boxing and the perfect one," boxing analyst Teddy Atlas said, per the New York Daily News. "He showed a tough, rugged veneer but at the same time the hint of a common good man who you just felt would come to your aide in a fight if he saw any unfair odds. That was Lou, a guy who knew what it took to be a champion and therefore how to make them!"
