There is some good news for fight fans regarding Oleksandr Usyk vs. Derek Chisora.
Usyk vs. Chisora has been made official for October 31. The event will air live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on DAZN in the United States. It’s a pivotal fight for Usyk as he doesn’t want to lose his WBO mandatory status.
Matchroom Boxing’s head honcho Eddie Hearn had the following to say on Usyk vs. Chisora.
“It’s an absolute firecracker and a fight that’s so important to the Heavyweight division over the next few months. We saw a stunning victory from Povetkin recently to shake up the mandatory situation, can WAR Chisora spring the upset and KO the undefeated Undisputed World Champ? I know he will do everything he can to try and get the victory and this will be another night of Heavyweight drama!”
This heavyweight collision was supposed to take place back on May 23 in London. The COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to that plan. There was hope of having fans in attendance at a reduced capacity but the Government of the United Kingdom pushed back plans of bringing live crowds back on October 1 due to a recent spike of COVID-19 infections.
Going into this bout, Usyk and Chisora have been cordial and both even posted humorous preparation videos to lighten the mood. Make no mistake about it, however, both men plan to leave it all in the boxing ring on Halloween night.
Here’s what Usyk had to say about fighting Chisora.
“Many people say that Derek is a monster, but deep down he is a kind man. I don’t expect to see that good side of him. I know that he wants to break me, but I am water, wind and fire all together. Derek Chisora, I am coming for you!”
Chisora responded with the following.
“Helllllo, Usyk, I’m ready for you, helllllo Usyk!,” said Chisora. “Usyk, I’ve been ready for you all year. It’s my home turf and after such a tough year for everyone, I’m going to give the British public the Halloween party they deserve and finally get revenge for my boy Tony Bellew!”
