Pacquiao vs. Matthysse Live Results
At almost 40 years old, Manny Pacquiao is ready to reclaim his status as one of the best welterweight boxers in the world as he faces off against Lucas Matthysse for the WBA “regular” welterweight title.
It’s been about a year since Pacquiao last fought and that fight saw Pacquiao lose his WBO welterweight title against Jeff Horn in controversial fashion. Since then, there has been potential talks of retirement for the eight-division world champion.
There were many instances in which it looked like Pacquiao could retire, from his loss to Floyd Mayweather to being knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez, but Pacquiao has always been able to bounce back. Now a loss to Matthysse, plus Father Time could mean curtains for Pacquiao.
Matthysse, had been flowing under the radar for years, but has always been on the precipice on joining boxing’s elite. Matthysse won the WBA’s secondary welterweight world title back in January with a win over Tewa Kiram, but has yet to defend his title and will do so against the biggest name Matthysse is fighting in his career.
The fight takes place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a rare location for a world title fight but it could potentially spell the end of Pacquiao’s storied career.
