Teofimo Lopez Agrees To Fight In August

Teofimo Lopez will make his debut – in a new division.

Lopez has agreed to return to the ring to face Pedro Campa in a junior welterweight bout on August 13, ESPN reported.

Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs) will fight for the first time since losing his three lightweight belts to George Kambosos Jr in FIGHT SPORTS’ Upset of the Year for 2021. He was sent to the mat in the first round, but recovered for a knockdown of his own in the 10th, but it wasn’t enough to convince the judges.

He was hospitalized following the loss for “extensive air in the retropharyngeal space,” likely caused by a slight tear in his esophagus.

Campa (33-1-1, 22 KOs), meanwhile, never fought outside of Mexico. He is coming off a TKO win over Abimael Cruz Bautista in last August.

On Saturday, Lopez was in attendance for Gervonta Davis’ successful defense of his WBA regular lightweight title against Rolando Romero. Lopez told FIGHT SPORTS he’s the only one who can beat Davis.
