As eyes lock on the UFC’s lightweight division with the anticipated Khabib Nurmagomedov-Conor McGregor showdown happening in a little over a month, two lightweight stars jock for contender position in the main event of UFC Lincoln.
Now in his second UFC calendar year, Justin Gaethje finds himself headlining another UFC Fight Night card, and he’ll look for his second UFC win and yet another post-fight bonus. On the other hand, James Vick looks for the biggest win of his career and the chance to either break into — or sit just outside — the top 5 in the UFC’s lightweight rankings.
After going 17-0 to start his MMA career, with a WSOF Lightweight Title reign to go with it, Gaethje made his UFC debut a little over a year ago in an exciting, award-winning bout with Michael Johnson that saw Gaethje win via second-round TKO. Gaethje got a performance bonus, and the bout was named Fight of the Night. Since then, Gaethje has dropped bouts to both Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier but earned Fight of the Night honors in both again.
Vick, meanwhile, comes into this fight riding a four-fight win streak, winning all but one of the 14 fights he’s had thus far in his career. His most recent bout came back in February, a unanimous decision win over Francisco Trinaldo.
