Who Could Dmitry Bivol’s Next Opponent Be?
Dmitry Bivol’s next title challenger could surface soon.
Bivol is the WBA (Super) Light-Heavyweight Champion. He has held the WBA gold since May 2016 when he had earned interim status. Eventually, Bivol was promoted. He has proven himself to be an elite 175-pounder with victories over Jean Pascal and Joe Smith Jr.
Having not competed since October 2019, many have wondered what’s next for Bivol. If Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya is to be believed, then the next challenger could be Gilberto Ramirez.
Here’s what De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com on a potential matchup between Bivol and Ramirez.
“I’m hoping in April we can get him back in the ring. If feel that there are some good name fighters out there for him, some good competition. But eventually down the road we want to get him that big event, that big fight.
“Bivol – that’s a fight we love. We’ve been talking to Bivol and there’s been some progress. We feel very optimistic we can do something with him. That’s the type of fight the public deserves to watch, a fight with those two names. It would be an incredible fight. There’s a very good chance of it happening.”
Both Bivol and Ramirez are undefeated in their pro boxing careers. Bivol is 17-0 with 11 knockout wins to his credit. Ramirez is 41-0 and has amassed 27 knockouts. Ramirez is a former world champion in the super-middleweight division. He had five successful title defenses before making the move to 175 pounds.
