Dana White has confirmed the first title fight for UFC 300 as Zhang Weili defends her strawweight belt against Yan Xiaonan.
Weili enters the fight following a successful first defense of the belt against Amanda Lemos at UFC 292. Zhang dominated her opponent to win a unanimous decision. She won the belt for the second time after beating Carla Esparza at UFC 281. This was after Zhang had lost the belt to Rose Namajunas, who had beaten her in back-to-back fights.
Xiaonan is in good form as she won her last two fights. Her previous fight was a first-round knockout of Jessica Andrade at UFC 288, which put her in line for the title shot. Prior to that, Xiaonan secured a majority decision victory against Mackenzie Dern at a UFC Fight Night event. It is Xiaonan’s first-ever strawweight title fight, and the first all-Chinese title fight in UFC history.
“Weili Zhang faces number one contender Yan Xiaonan for the UFC strawweight title on UFC 300 and this is the first time two Chinese contenders have faced off for a world title. So, there’s one of the title fights for UFC 300. I will have at least two or more [fights] for you tomorrow,” White said
