Chael Sonnen has suggested Conor McGregor could face Tony Ferguson at the UFC White House event in June of 2026.
McGregor, who hasn’t competed since his breaking his leg in his round 1 loss to Dustin Poirier over 4 years ago, has reentered the UFC testing pool. He has two fights left on his UFC deal, and has a strong desire to fight at the UFC White House event. Dana White has confirmed that he is in “non-stop” talks with McGregor about a potential fight, and would like him to headline the event.
Meanwhile, Ferguson left the UFC earlier this year after losing eight straight fights, with one of those losses coming at the hands of Michael Chandler, who is confident he will be the one who faces Conor at the White House since he was supposed to face him last summer until Conor withdrew one day before the press conference claiming he had a broken toe.
“Conor used to be a world champion, so Conor can fight anybody, but Conor is not ranked. So, if we bring him back, we could put him against somebody who isn’t ranked, an older name, a name that you know, we can bring somebody in. Tony Ferguson would not be off the table. This doesn’t impact anything in the future. This is a one-night only event,” Sonnen said
“I think we’re closer now than we ever have been. I’ve always said if you’re a betting man, don’t put money on him necessarily coming back but now this changes things a lot. In my heart of hearts, I think I’m fighting Conor McGregor at the White House and that sure does make a ton of sense for a multitude of reasons,” Chandler stated
