The main event picture for UFC 332 has remained unclear since the news of Valentina Shevchenko’s undisclosed injury became public, but now, less than a month from fight night, the card is complete.
Shevchenko decided to vacate her UFC women’s flyweight strap in light of her recent injury and step away from what would have been a third title defense match on her most recent championship run. Now stepping in on short notice to face Natália Silva in the headlining slot on October 3rd will be Wang Cong, who is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. With Shevchenko stepping away from the title, the pair will be competing for the vacant 125-pound belt.
Little information has been released surrounding Shevchenko’s current situation, but it is expected that the two-time UFC champion will be out of action for at least a year with the injury.
UFC 332 will take place inside Salt Lake City’s Delta Center on Saturday, October 3rd. Beneath the women’s flyweight title fight on the card, bantamweight top-ten contender Payton Talbott will square off with former UFC champion Deiveson Figueiredo.
