BREAKING: Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders Location Revealed

The location for Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders has been announced.

Canelo and Saunders are set to collide on May 8. Canelo is the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Champion. Saunders holds the WBO gold.

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn had been hinting at the location of Canelo vs. Saunders. While inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas for Juan Estrada vs. Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez 2, Hearn said Canelo vs. Saunders would take place in a building not too far away. Of course, many instantly assumed AT&T Stadium.

That hunch ended up being correct. Mike Coppinger of The Athletic reports that the 168-pound title clash will indeed take place inside AT&T Stadium at full capacity if needed.

Sources: The Canelo Alvarez-Billy Joe Saunders super middleweight title unification will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Eddie Hearn and Canelo can use the full capacity of the stadium if they wish. Stadium holds over 100,000 when expanded.”

The official Twitter account of Matchroom Boxing made the news official.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on March 26 at 11 a.m. ET. Those hoping to take advantage of the pre-sale will have to do so on March 23 at 11 a.m. ET.

Canelo is hoping to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion by the end of 2021. If he defeats Saunders, then the final hurdle would be IBF Champion Caleb Plant. Canelo made short work of Avni Yildirim back in February, stopping the mandatory challenger in the third round via TKO.

Saunders has a perfect pro boxing record of 30-0. He’s had two successful WBO Title defenses. In his last bout, Saunders defeated Martin Murray via unanimous decision.
