Ferguson Makes Weight For Postponed UFC 249 Event
Whatever Tony Ferguson wants to do, he will happily get done. That includes making weight for a fight that is no longer happening.
It is known that Ferguson (25-3) beats to his own drum, and prepares for fights in an extreme way. A few days ago, “El Cucuy” stated his intentions to make the lightweight weight of 155 for the postponed UFC 249 card. The event was supposed to take place this Saturday, August 18. Just yesterday, he was almost close to his goal.

Ferguson was originally supposed to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Title in Brooklyn. Due to the coronavirus, the Nevada, New York and California Athletic Commission’s all ended up barring combat sports from taking place. Due to the lack of information regarding the new location for the event, Khabib backed out of UFC 249 to quarantine, postponing the fight yet again.
UFC President Dana White then matched Ferguson with Justin Gaethje, with the event taking place inside Tachi Palace, a Native American casino in Lemoore, California. California Governor Gavin Newsom ended up calling Disney officials directly, expressing concerns over the UFC holding events in the wake of the coronavirus, forcing the promotion to postpone the event.
As of right now, Ferguson is scheduled to face Gaethje on May 9 from an undisclosed location. He now has 20+ days to make weight again. With all the wear and tear that goes on with weight cutting, will he be able to get it done with no long-term issues?
