Following Multiple Delays, Is There A Set Date For Jose Ramirez Vs. Viktor Postol?
After Top Rank’s Bob Arum stated that August would be ideal for a bout between Jose Ramirez and Viktor Postol, it appears the fight may finally be happening.
According to ESPN, Arum is looking to have the fight during the last week of August. Top Rank President Todd duBoef stated that the promotion is working on a set date that would work based on ESPN’s upcoming schedule.
“We’re being as flexible as possible with ESPN,” duBoef stated. “They’re going to see how the NBA schedule comes out, the MLB schedule, all the other sports that are supposed to be back in August. They’re formulating their schedule.
“We’re basically telling [fighters], ‘Hey, you’ll be this week in August. You’ll be this week in August.’ Then we’re honing in on a date.”
Both fighters were supposed to fight in China earlier in the year, but the bout was postponed due to the coronavirus heavily affecting the area. They were then booked for May in California, but it was once again postponed due to the pandemic growing in America. Future factors would involve Postol coming to America from Ukraine due to traveling issues, which appear to have fixed itself.
Top Rank returned to action in June and has held multiple events inside the “Bubble” inside the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. Arum is hoping to have fans at events by the time this fight takes place.
Ramirez (25-0) is coming off of a TKO-win over Maurice Hooker back in July 2019. He won the WBO Junior-Welterweight Title to go along with his WBC belt. The 27-year-old won the vacant WBC belt back in 2018, beating Amir Iman.
Postol (31-2) is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Mohamed Mimoune back in April 2019 to become the mandatory challenger. He is on a two-fight win streak following a 1-2 record from 2016 to the middle of 2018.
Stay tuned, as more information should be revealed regarding this matchup months in the making.
