Full Card Revealed For August 8 UFC Event

The UFC will look to continue to hold big events in the APEX Center in Las Vegas. “Big” will be a literal term as two heavyweights will officially main event a fight night with a stacked card.

A previously reported bout between Aleksei Oleinik and Derrick Lewis has been confirmed for August 8. The fight card will air on ESPN+.

Lewis (23-7, 1 NC) is coming off of a win against Ilir Latifi back in February. He is on a two-fight win streak. The former UFC Heavyweight Title contender was considering retiring from the sport but will continue fighting for this exciting matchup to happen.

Oleynik (59-13-1) is also currently on a two-fight win streak. “The Boa Constrictor” has fought twice in 2020; he beat Maurice Green via submission at UFC 246 in January and beat Fabricio Werdum via split decision at UFC 249 in May. The 42-year-old Russian is a multiple-time Sambo champion and has won multiple tournaments, with a career dating back to 1996.

The co-main event will be Omari Akhmedov v. Chris Weidman in a middleweight bout. This will be Weidman’s return to middleweight for the first time since 2018. The 36-year-old was supposed to face middleweight Jack Hermansson at UFC Oklahoma City on May 2, but the bout was pulled due to the coronavirus.

Weidman (14-5) is looking to get his first win since 2017. The former UFC Middleweight Champion lost the title to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 in 2015. Since then, injuries and losses have derailed his career. 1-4 since then, “All-American” is on a two-fight losing streak. He made his light heavyweight debut in October, losing to contender Dominick Reyes via first-round knockout.

Akhmedov (20-4-1) has been with the UFC since 2013. The 32-year-old fought three times in 2019 after a draw against Marvin Vettori in 2017. He won all three of those bouts, besting Tim Boetsch, Zak Cummings, and Ian Heinisch via unanimous decision.
