Fury vs. Usyk Rematch Could Happen In October

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch could take place on October 12/13.

According to reports, the Saudis want to hold the rematch as the next fight. That rules out the winner facing Anthony Joshua or taking up an IBF title defense. Fury and Usyk face off on May 18, with the winner becoming the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since 1999. That is when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield in the rematch to become the best of his era.

The Fury-Usyk fight has already been called off twice. It was meant for December 23 last year, only for Fury to withdraw following the tough Francis Ngannou bout. Fury did the same for the rescheduled February 17 date, withdrawing after a big cut over his right eye. The Saudis have said they will fine Fury and Usyk $10 million each if either one withdraws.

However, a rematch may not happen, depending on the nature of the fight. The Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford rematch never happened. Crawford dropped Spence three times before stopping him in round nine to become the first Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the four-belt era. Spence’s performance reduced the demand for the rematch. The same could happen for Fury-Usyk.
