Is Colby Covington Interested In Fighting Nick Diaz?
Colby Covington has taken aim at numerous UFC fighters but is Nick Diaz on his radar?
Covington took on former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley this past Saturday, September 19. The bout headlined UFC Vegas 11 inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the final round, Covington scored a takedown and things took a turn for Woodley when he tried to maneuver. “The Chosen One” yelled out in pain and the fight was stopped. Covington emerged victorious via TKO after Woodley suffered a broken rib.
After the bout, Covington spoke to reporters during the post-fight press conference. “Chaos” weighed in on whether or not he’d entertain a fight with Nick Diaz (h/t MMAJunkie.com).
“I would love to fight Nick. He’s a high-pressure fighter. I’d love to fight him and it would be an easy fight. I’d definitely retire him just like I retired Tyron Woodley (on Saturday). Nick Diaz would never fight again, I promise you, after I got done with him.”
Diaz’s manager recently told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that the Stockton native has been doing a test weight cut to prepare for a return to the Octagon in 2021. Diaz hasn’t had a pro MMA bout since January 2015. Some fighters have already entered the Diaz sweepstakes, including Stephen Thompson. If Diaz does indeed go through with comeback plans, it’ll be interesting to see who he is matched up against.
UFC President Dana White isn’t sold on Diaz making a return to fighting. White has said the UFC and Diaz have been talking over the years but nothing materialized.
