Jones-Gustafsson II Signed For UFC 232

A day after Daniel Cormier signed for his first heavyweight title defense, the light heavyweight title’s fate will be decided a month later as Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson will face off at UFC 232.

Cormier knew that his time as “champ champ” would be short lived, and predicted that he’d be stripped to set up this exact match-up at this exact event earlier this month.

This will be Jones’ first fight since winning the light heavyweight title from Cormier at UFC 214 in July of 2017, which would see his third round knockout overturned due to a failed drug test.

Cormier would be given back the title immediately following Jones’ failed test, and would win the heavyweight title just a year later at UFC 226.

Jones and Gustafsson faced off in the 2013 fight of the year at UFC 165 in Toronto, where Jones would fight back to claim a unanimous decision victory.

This will be the Swede’s first title opportunity since a loss to Cormier at UFC 192 in 2015 in a split decision loss.

The December 29th card will also feature a women’s superfight between UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg and bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes.
