If you were hoping to see Caleb Truax (31-4-2, 1 NC) vs. Alfredo Angulo (26-7) on Saturday, August 29, we’ve got some bad news.
Truax has been yanked from the Erislandy Lara vs. Greg Vendetti card due to an illness. Boxing Scene was told that it isn’t COVID-19-related. Truax vs. Angulo was set to be a title eliminator that would’ve emanated from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Vladimir Hernandez (11-4) now gets the call to fight Angulo on short notice. The issue now boils down to whether or not Angulo vs. Hernandez becomes a title eliminator. Hernandez isn’t ranked by the IBF, which could complicate matters if he pulls off a win.
This is a tough break for Truax, who had competed earlier in the year. He earned a majority decision win over David Basajjamivule. While Truax didn’t get the exact result he was hoping for, it was still a win coming off a No Contest against Peter Quillin due to an accidental clash of heads.
There’s no word on if there will be an attempt to re-book the fight if Angulo defeats Hernandez on Saturday night. Angulo hasn’t competed inside the boxing ring since September 21, 2019. He defeated Quillin via split decision. Now, he’s looking to nab his third win in a row against an opponent he didn’t prepare for.
As mentioned, the main event of this weekend’s card will be Lara vs. Vendetti. Lara will be putting his WBA (Regular) Light-Middleweight title on the line. In addition, the vacant IBO Light-Middleweight Championship will also be up for grabs.
