Teofimo Lopez Says Gervonta Davis & Devin Haney Need To Step It Up

Teofimo Lopez believes that Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney aren’t getting it.

Lopez, Davis, and Haney are all champions. Most would agree that Lopez and Davis are two top stars, while Haney hasn’t quite captured the attention of the masses. Lopez has made it clear, however, that he feels he’s the A-side compared to Davis.

Speaking to Bad Left Hook, Lopez said he doesn’t believe Davis and Haney are grasping what it takes to be the head of the table.

“Devin Haney is not coming around. Ryan Garcia, we’ll see, I think he is coming around. But Devin needs to step it up. Who has he fought? Nobody even knows the names of the guys he’s faced. Then he’s fighting (Yuriorkis) Gamboa, a guy with a pulse. You want to see how he does. If he takes the guy out quick, he’s a contender (Haney defeated Gamboa via unanimous decision).

“Gervonta Davis, he don’t get it. He’s doing it the way Floyd Mayweather would do it, the way ‘Money Mayweather’ would do it. These guys need to be encouraged (to do it the Teofimo way). I took the fight with Lomachenko because I believed I was the best. If everyone was not on board with that, OK, cool, I wasn’t surprised. I see you, f*ck you. Maybe you’re gonna be pissed when I beat him.”

Lopez has been recovering from surgery following his unanimous decision win over Vasiliy Lomachenko. “The Takeover” injured his right foot in the fight. With the win over “Loma,” Lopez capture the WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC (Franchise) Titles. He was already the IBF titleholder going into the bout.

Davis is the WBA (Regular) Lightweight and WBA (Super) Super-Featherweight Champion. Haney holds the WBC Lightweight Championship.
