Despite Dana White’s lack of interest surrounding an appearance at the event, Michael Chandler is still dead set on making his way onto the UFC White House card planned for this June.
At one point following the President’s announcement of the monumental event, it was expected that Chandler would finally get his chance to square off with Conor McGregor. The pair were originally expected to fight following their appearances as opposing coaches on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ in 2023, but the bout’s date was continuously pushed back for different reasons and ultimately cancelled for good in the spring of 2024.
The rumors of a fight between McGregor and Chandler at the White House were promptly shot down by UFC CEO Dana White on a recent podcast appearance, in which he commented that he has no plans for that match. Despite this information, Chandler is still adamant about the opportunity, and is confident he will be fighting at the White House on June 14th.
“Obviously, as Dana and they have said, they’re gonna start that matchmaking (Monday, Jan. 26) talking about the White House card,” Chandler said at UFC 324. “Everyone knows that’s what my sights are set on. Best-case scenario: It’s me and Conor. Worst-case scenario: I’m still fighting at the White House, fighting someone else, and it will be an awesome, badass matchup. And I will steal the show, and I will end up with one of those bonuses.”
