Claressa Shields Could Rematch Savannah Marshall Next Year

Dmitriy Salita has revealed that Claressa Shields vs Savannah Marshall 2 could end up taking place next year.

The two fighters are currently undisputed champions in their own right. Shields holds all the belts at 160, while Marshall has achieved the same feat at 168. During their only professional fight, Shields beat Marshall via a unanimous decision in their undisputed middleweight bout. In the aftermath of that defeat, Marshall secured a win over Franchon Crews-Dezurn to become undisputed at super middleweight. With that being said, a rematch may play out next year.

“There are few rivalries that exist in boxing that are as genuine as Claressa and Savannah. We are exploring next year. Our goal has always been to make the biggest and the best fights for the sport of boxing, and particularly women’s boxing to grow it wider and bigger. Both have had wins after their epic battle and their story continues with a rematch being something we are open to exploring,” Salita said

Before that can happen, there are a few issues that need to be overcome. Marshall is currently out injured, but she is expected to be back sometime in 2024. Meanwhile, both fighters would have to agree on which weight class they faced each other. Shields could either move up to 168 or face Marshall on the same terms if the latter wants to avenge the loss at the same weight. Either way, the social media response indicated a desire to see the fight.
