Katie Taylor Talks Possible Cris Cyborg & Amanda Serrano Fights

Katie Taylor has discussed potential matchups with Cris Cyborg and Amanda Serrano.

Taylor is the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO Female Lightweight Champion. She’s set for a title defense this Saturday night, November 14 against Miriam Gutierrez. Both fighters are undefeated up to this point. Taylor has a record of 16-0, while Gutierrez is 13-0.

Taylor appeared on SiriusXM and DAZN’s The Ak and Barak Show and made it clear that she’d only fight Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg inside the boxing ring.

“I’ve definitely seen her name being thrown around over the last few weeks. I don’t really know what’s going on with my career. I get told who I’m fighting for the most part [laughs]. If it is a fight that people are interested in, I’m very, very open to that as well. Obviously, I have a fight to focus on first over the weekend but once that is over I have no problems stepping into the ring. My hope is the ring and not the cage.”

She went on to say that there are just too many disciplines in MMA for her to start learning against an elite fighter such as Cyborg under that ruleset.

“I wouldn’t know how to fight on the ground. I’m okay boxing wise but if they got me on the ground or definitely start kicking me, I wouldn’t know what to do with that so I hope they’re talking about it in the ring.”

Taylor was then asked about a potential showdown with Amanda Serrano. Taylor said she isn’t convinced that Serrano wants the fight.

“I hope so. I mean I have the urge to fight her but I’m not so sure she has the urge to fight me. I’m not too sure to be quite honest. The fight was obviously scheduled a couple of times and she pulled out a couple of times. The fight hasn’t happened, not because of me but it is because of her. I would absolutely love to fight Amanda Serrano. She’s obviously a seven-weight world champion. She’s a huge fighter, everyone knows her and it’s a fight that people will be very, very excited about. It will be a megafight if it ever did happen, so I would absolutely love that.”

The full interview with Katie Taylor will air on The Ak and Barak Show tomorrow, November 11, at 1 p.m. ET. Fight fans can catch the interview on SiriusXM Fight Nation 156 or the video version on DAZN later that day.
