Masvidal’s Coach Backs Him To Beat Diaz

Jorge Masvidal’s trainer, Paulino Hernandez, backed Gamebread to beat Nate Diaz on June 1.

The two fighters will box following up on their previous UFC clash. Masvidal secured a stoppage win over Diaz in 2019 at UFC 244. The New York State Athletic Commission stopped the fight at the end of round three. A cut over Diaz’s eye no longer meant it was safe to continue.

Their upcoming boxing clash is a battle between two novice boxers. Masvidal has boxed once, beating Joseph Benjamin via a majority decision in 2005. Diaz has boxed much more recently, losing a unanimous decision to Jake Paul last August. Hernandez felt Masvidal would inflict Diaz with another loss.

“Jorge has already fought in boxing before, so he’s got some prior experience. He fought once in boxing and won. I think Jorge has Nate Diaz’s number. They know each other, and he knows what he brings. They’re fighting in boxing, which is different since there are no elbows, knees, or kicks. It’s just hands, but Jorge is great with his hands. He’s well-prepared, and we’re confident that we’re going to win,” Hernandez said

Masvidal last fought in 2023, losing against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. That was Masvidal’s fourth loss in row. While Masvidal’s team are confident, the recent record suggests otherwise.
