Usyk May Go Back To Cruiserweight

Oleksandr Usyk may drop to cruiserweight after rematching Tyson Fury.

Usyk beat Fury via a split decision to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Usyk joined Evander Holyfield in becoming undisputed at cruiserweight and heavyweight. Usyk’s feat was all the more impressive since he was giving up his advantages at heavyweight.

Usyk’s stamina and footwork made him dominate the cruiserweight division. There were worries that Usyk would lose those advantages at heavyweight. However, the Ukrainian kept them, beating Anthony Joshua and Fury on points. Once the Fury rematch is over, which is a contractual obligation, Usyk may move back to his natural weight class.

There is an argument that Usyk should retire now or after the Fury rematch. He has won everything at heavyweight and cruiserweight. If he desires to continue boxing, a move to bridgerweight could make sense. However, the weight class is fairly new and has not won the plaudits of many boxing fans. The result of the Fury rematch may ultimately influence his decision.
