When Will We See Anderson Silva Reportedly Fight Again?
Halloween may be the date in which we see Anderson’s Silva’s storied UFC career come to an end.
UFC President Dana White spoke to reporters during a recent episode of Dana White’s Contender Series to discuss the future of the future UFC Hall of Famer. He stated he is working on Silva (34-10, 1 NC) facing off against Uriah Hall on a UFC Fight Night on October 31. The bout would be one of the final fights on his current UFC contract, but White has hinted this could be his final bout.
“We’re working on a fight for him coming up soon here,” White said, via MMA Junkie. “He will fight again. I met with his managers the other day. This will be his last fight. This will be his last fight. I think he’s going to retire. That’s not our business. That’s up to him. That’s up to him. Let him do this the way he wants to do it.”
“The Spider”, a former PRIDE Welterweight Champion, holds the records for most knockdowns in UFC (18) and title fight (10) history. He also has the longest win streak in UFC history at 16 and title reign at 2,347 days. Beating Rich Franklin for the UFC Middleweight Title in 2006, Silva held onto the title until 2013, when Chris Weidman shocked the world at UFC 162 with a knockout.
Since then, Silva has gone 1-5 with one no-contest in seven fights. He is on a two-fight losing streak, facing Israel Adesanya at UFC 234. Losing via unanimous decision, Silva came back in May 2019 and injured his leg against Jared Cannonier. There have since been rumors he could end up facing Conor McGregor.
For Hall (15-9), this would be the third fight planned for him in 2020. He was supposed to face Ronaldo Souza at UFC 249, but due to COVID-19 (the event initially getting postponed and Souza testing positive), the bout was scrapped. He was then supposed to face Yoel Romero on August 22, but Romero had to pull out of the bout.
A former Ring of Combat Middleweight Champion, Hall made his UFC debut in 2013. Making it to the finals of The Ultimate Fighter 17, Hall is 8-7 with the UFC. He is currently on a two-fight win streak, last fighting in September by beating Antonio Carlos Junior via split decision.
As of now, no venue has been announced for the October 31 date. Las Vegas and “Fight Island” are currently in play.
