Michael Chandler has reacted to Conor McGregor’s plea towards Dana White for fighting this year.
White confirmed McGregor would not fight this year after the Irishman pulled out of his UFC 303 fight with Chandler. Much to his disappointment, McGregor suffered a broken toe, as Conor has not fought since his UFC 264 defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021.
McGregor targeted a return by September, but the UFC already chose Sean O’Malley to take on Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306 on September 14. Ariel Helwani suggested the fight could happen in December. White dismissed that, leaving McGregor disappointed.
Chandler has suggested he could move on. He singled out Charles Oliveira for a rematch. They fought at UFC 262 in 2021 for the vacant lightweight title. Oliveira came out victorious with a second-round stoppage, as Chandler considers running things back.
“The most realistic option for me if you look at the landscape and you consider everything is Charles Oliveira. I love the rematch with Charles. I think it’s a great fight to get the fans pumped up. I almost had him finished in the first round, and then I made a glaring mistake in the second round that I would never, ever make again. It was almost a self-fulfilling prophecy that I was working on in camp that turned out to be my demise,” said
