Dana White has revealed that Conor McGregor will be sidelined for approximately 12 months following surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered in his loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329 on July 11.
McGregor’s return lasted just 69 seconds after five years away, as the knee injury required immediate surgery. White provided the update while speaking to the media following Zuffa Boxing 9, confirming that McGregor joined him on FaceTime from ringside that evening.
“We had him on FaceTime tonight ringside,” White said. “But Conor McGregor’s out for a year.”
The news means McGregor, now 38, faces another lengthy rehabilitation period before the final fight on his UFC contract can be scheduled.
Although McGregor had been away for five years, his return generated the highest gate in UFC history at $26.4 million. It will now be interesting to see how much his final fight with the promotion could generate next year.
