Daniel Cormier On Why The Conor McGregor Comeback Has Been Such A Struggle

In a recent appearance on The Night Cap Show, Daniel Cormier spoke to the hosts about Conor McGregor and why he may be hesitant about making an octagon return.

Conor McGregor most recently fought way back in 2021, when he lost his second straight to Dustin Poirier and suffered a broken leg that ended the fight. Of course, making a comeback from this kind of injury, especially this far into a career, is a somewhat cursed mission in itself, but Cormier feels that is not the only thing holding him back.

In 2023, McGregor coached opposite Michael Chandler on that year’s installment of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality show. Following the season, it was anticipated that the pair would square off inside the cage, but unfortunately the match got pushed back multiple times until ultimately cancelled from its set date in June 2024.

Now, McGregor is hoping he is a shoo-in for the planned UFC event at the White House in June 2026. But former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier seems to question if the Irishman really wants to come back to such a brutal sport after reaching his financial goals and already suffering one devastating injury.

“To do that as a very, very rich man and get hit and get kneed and elbowed – what if you get cut? You start going, ‘God, I don’t really need to do this anymore.’”
